I had a very good experience with Eddie, and I would highly recommend him to everyone in town. Eddie is a very honest guy who takes time to identify the problem, explain it to you in a simple, clear way, and offer several solutions. Eddie worked on my Audi A4 several times, and I was always very satisfied with the outcome. He has the highest quality standards, and he won’t finish the job until he is 100% sure that everything is done right. His prices are fair, and he would always let you know an approximate cost of the repair before he starts working on the car. If you consider buying a German car, you should bring it to Eddie for pre-sale evaluation. Not only he would tell you what condition it is in, he also know a lot about local car sellers and the quality of cars that they offer.
The second mechanic found that only one of the bolts to keep the column connected to the wheel base was even left, and it was barely hanging in there. I imagine the others had fallen out the few other times I had been able to drive my car since getting it back. This is definitively the fault of whoever installed my steering column when I returned it to Eddie's. I have been driving a death trap for these months, and it was by pure miracle the last bolt came loose in my parking lot and not on the highway.
Mechanics in general have a bad reputation, it is rare that you find one you can fully trust. I trusted Eddie 110% to be fair, honest, and timely. I will NEVER EVER return to Eddie's auto. I am disgusted that Doc is running his shady business under the name of such a great man. It makes it very difficult to support a local business when its operated like a mob shake down. A decent business owner is honest and upfront. There is no excuse for lying to customers by omission. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED and DISSATISFIED.
Great service especially on foreign cars and does it all in good time for good prices i would recommend for people who have foreigns and dont wanna drive all the way to their foreign dealerships
I have a long history with Eddie's Auto, and throughout it, they have taken great care of me. I would recommend that you give them a shot, especially if you drive an import. Thanks for everything, guys!
The next day around 2 in the afternoon I called for an update and was informed he took my car to a different mechanic for an alignment. He said they dropped it off at 1030 that morning and hadn't heard back from them yet. I never gave permission for an alignment, or for any other mechanic to work on my car. He assured me it was part of the repair and glossed over the fact that he said it was in for an alignment the day before. When I picked my care up I was told it would be $860 because it was an additional $79 for the alignment. Doc said "Well I sure am sorry, but I thought I told you" No, he didn't and I have the messages to prove it. He also failed to mention that an oil change costs $79!!!! That is highway robbery!
But this past week my partner and 2 of his friends were in the car when the steering column COMPLETELY detached, rendering the car undrivable while they were moving! Luckily they were only in our parking lot, but this is a mistake that could have cost lives. I knew I had work on the steering column done elsewhere than Eddie's, but I was doubtful the specialists were at fault and that this had to do with the installation of the column.
As soon as I got my car back there were issues. The fuses were all jammed in randomly, and due to that several blew and I had to replace them. I notified them but I wasn't too concerned.
Then, for some reason, every time I left my car, it died overnight. I kept jumping it, had the battery tested, checked fuses, and everything was fine, but it kept dying. I finally realized they misaligned the key cylinder when installing it. Whenever the ignition was in the "lock" position, it was actually in accessories, and so some indoor lights would stay on every time I thought I was turning my car off. Even that I was okay with, because at least I now knew which position to keep the ignition so I could drive my car day to day.
September of 2016 I took my 89 Riviera here to replace a jammed key cylinder. Discovered the corresponding mechanism within the steering column was broken. The owner at the time tried to get me to wait until he found another steering column from a scrap yard, which he wanted $200+ for it and installation, but I decided to get the column sent off to mechanics who specialize in steering columns, as it was, as far as we could tell, that one mechanism. Oh, and btw, I was charged another $20 on my bill for supplying the key cylinder replacement myself, as opposed to buying from Eddie. $25 was what I paid for it at NAPA, so I basically got charged full value a second time for the part. Not sure if that policy continues.
I dropped by car off to have the fuel pump changed. Doc called to quote a price of $776 ($500 more than what I was expecting). I asked if it the work would be completed by the end of the day since I dropped it off the evening before. He replied "well the parts are in Marion" . I offered to have someone pick up the parts and then finally he said he could try to drive over and pick them up if worse came to worse. At 550 that evening he called and said they weren't done with the alignment so I wouldn't have my car that day. I was confused because I didn't request an alignment but they were closed by then so I had to wait.
As far as my experience tells me, Eddie's does lazy work, will charge exorbitantly when you don't buy parts from them, and their current owner will not stand by the past owner's work, even though he kept the name, probably to keep regular customers. There are definitely better options in Carbondale.
BEWARE!!!!!! A complete RIP OFF! I only took my car here because I was under the false impression the shop was still owned an operated by Eddie who I have found to be knowledgeable, caring, and HONEST. It wasn't until I read the fine print on a business card in the shop that I realized the shop is now owned by Darren Buss "Doc". When asked why he kept the name Eddie's he said "well he already had the business so I figured it wasn't worth changing the sign" well I'd believe that if they weren't in a new location where the sign can be changed to say anything.
So I had a second mechanic take a look, since when I called Eddie's the new owner would not guarantee right off the bat to make amends if his workers' (they are the same employees as I've been told) job was the cause.
